Snopanema (“Ipanema Under the Snow”) is the first episode of a five-part Frozen Series by Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich, showing Brazil’s most known places of power. In this moving image, Ipanema is covered with snowflakes, and the source is the artist’s hand. Snopanema was commissioned by Visionaire, New York-based publication, as part of their 61 RIO edition featuring 20 artists with the likes of Maurizio Catellan, Tony Oursler, Richard Philips, and Vik Muniz, each presenting a lenticular work manifesting their unconditional love for Rio de Janeiro.
This stereo-vario image placed inside a wooden photobox depicts my hand pouring the snow on one of the world’s best known beaches, where the reality is way too hot and the snow is much needed.
