A new play by Liudmila Petrushevskaya has become the inspiration for my collaborators (artist Katya Bochavar and choreographer Dina Khuseyn) and I to create a new piece of post-dramatic theatre (in a form we call dramatic dance). 'Tango-Quadrat' is based on the framework of Fassbinder's 'Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant' yet it has just the schematic track of the latter.
Petrushevskaya's play explores the love of a connecting/rejecting mother and daughter (just like her Bifem which we premiered at The ICA, London in 2004).
Our 4 actresses have no arms to support them and speak only with their legs. 'Tango-Quadrat' is my first experience as a choreographer.
