LEG-OPENER

Phobias: algophobia (fear of physical pain), haphephobia (fear of touch), gelotophobia (fear of being made fun of by other people), cleithrophobia (fear of being trapped), monophobia (fear of isolation), tomophobia (fear of invasive medical procedure), tokophobia (fear of childbirth or pregnancy), erotophobia (fear of sexual love or sexual abuse)

Laying on one’s back, with arms restrained and legs spread wide, can call up a whole assortment of feelings, but the primal fear it inspires spans every gender and cultural divide. The body is compromised and exposed, powerless to react to and resist the will of others. With all that in mind, what does it mean to willingly occupy that position? What are you willing to offer—and accept—from the world around you?
