This performance is opposing an idea of genesis porridge who recently started a movement called 'protest against forgetting'.
There is an ancient jewish legend. When a baby is coming to this world, he/she knows and remembers everything. as it would be hard for a human being to survive with such a heavy bag of knowledge, god knows how to resolve this. Each and every new born baby receives a flick under the nose from god just before leaving mother's belly - and this way baby forgets everything, having a crystal clear memory once entering this world.
My russian/jewish decent helps me to remember quite a lot. My family surviving (or not) through - wars and executions, concentration camps and political imprisonment, poverty and famine. I'd love to get rid of all that.
I performed naked - I stood on a tall ladder next to the gallery wall. I asked every gallery visitor to climb up another, smaller ladder placed next to mine, and give me a flick under my nose with both index finger and thumb. Eeach flick produced by a visitor was marked with a memory erasing bell ringing. Once giving me a flick on my nose, each visitor received a certificate outlining visitor's role in my personal memory loss.
