Centipede

Phobias: acrophobia (fear of heights), haphephobia (fear of touch), futurophobia (fear of the future)

As we hold each other close, we fight out the unknown together. Here, however, we face a different problem: who is “we” in the first place? Has a partner’s hand (or foot) earned our trust as we enter into the future? Did we climb too high? In their work Revolving Door (Venice Biennale, 2011), artists Allora & Calzadilla created a barrier of linked human bodies; Centipede turns these bodies into a Tower of Babel, albeit with building blocks that still understand each other.
