Baró Gallery presents “Adventures of the body”, first solo exhibition of Russia-born Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich’s at the gallery, which celebrates the long-awaited collaboration and marks our official representation of this incredible artist and dear friend.
Located at the Container, the artist’s new installation presents a series of photographs that portray his own body in several natural and fictitious circumstances. The artist proposes a new experience of performance art, where the subject’s action is passed on to the spectator who, by interacting with a system of ropes and pulleys, moves the framed pictures up and down thus reaching a balance between the viewer and the artwork.
Simultaneously to his exhibition at Baró, the artist will also be showing his performance “Carrousel” at SESC Consolação, where he will invite the audience to take part in an interactive manner, by pedaling a bicycle installed at the site, whose driving force will turn the carrousel, revealing all different performances that make up the installation – which was already shown in Austria and Argentina, received the Grand Prix for best multimedia art – shared with Ragnar Kjartansson at the Kuryokhin International Prize awards.
Visual artist, curator, writer, filmmaker and theater director, Pavlov-Andreevich was immediately praised in the artistic world, from the beginning of his career in 2008. In 2009. he was invited by curator Hans-Ulrich Obrist join the performance art group “Marina Abramovic Presents”at the Manchester International Festival, held at the Whitworth Galleries, with a live presentation of his performance piece “Temple of my mouth”. In 2010, the performance piece Egobox was included in the International Performance Festival (Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, in Moscow) by MoMA PS1 director, Klaus Biesenbach and Perfoma Biennial founder, RoseLee Goldberg.
