CONSTRUCTION CRANE
The funniest part was Anna and myself trying to bargain with the crane owner. We didn't have enough money to rent the one we needed - the tallest - and it took us several phone conversations before he agreed to get us the one we needed, the 56 m tall crane, at the amount of money we could pay. However next early afternoon, once I was up there trying to rehearse, I saw how miserable in fact were our attempts. Basically the guys sent over the other crane the one they wanted to sell to us, a much shorter one - and I was able to see that as I knew how tall the museum building was. But that was too late to fight
WEDDING RING
Anna is talking to Giacomo on the phone, figuring out the date for their coming wedding - it's time to decide today! However the call straight away goes towards the risks of performance art while Anna is down there trying to understand how to keep the flag (The Skies Are Black At Night is written on it) open the way it could be read easily - the wind isn't too helpful
SUN IN HAND
Many people come on to the museum's rooftop to take selfies - and all of a sudden they get a nice background. At certain point there is a whole group coming for a lovely wedding photoshoot - and the bride was supposed to have a picture of the setting sun in her hand - but instead she gets a hanged man in her hand, it is so contemporary! Anna's thoughts straight away go towards her own wedding with Giacomo - what a shame this suspension cannot happen in the small village near Pistoia!
CLOCK ON BUILDING
When I was lifted up there at 1pm I was a bit disappointed. There was a huge clock on a building's wall like a couple of miles away from me, and I was pretty much facing it. I tried not to look at it as much as I could but still the temptation was quite strong. I remember we agreed with Anna to do 7 hours, so I was supposed to be put down at 8pm. Surprisingly at around 6pm I was already unable to see the clock, only a pale shadow of it, so it was all about guessing about how much time has left, in between of my breathing techniques and meditation. At times it looked to me like I can clearly see the clock but later it would melt away again. I was rather surprised when they started pulling me down at around 7pm (in my version of time) - and then Anna was like: hey, congrats, you spent over 8 hours there! Then I thought: woah, time is such a myth in fact! There were still 5 months left until Anna and Giacomo's wedding.
A FROG
After I spent 3 hours up there I realized the tallest thing I can see near me was an obelisk. So I thought it would be a nicest thing to continue the temporary monuments with the temporary obelisks. A construction crane and a body suspended on top of an obelisk for 7 hours is a solution for a new series which could be best explained with the Russian joke. A guy comes to see the doctor, and there is a frog that sits on top of his head. A doctor is asking: what's wrong with you? And the frog says: oh something has sticked up my arse! Later evening Anna is the first to hear the story. And then I think: maybe Giacomo could make an obelisk for his home town of Spedaletto, and then we do it there.
RAINCOAT
Anna was so worried in the morning - the forecast was terrible, we were promised a very strong wind and regular showers. So she brought me a Muji plastic raincoat (that she bought for Giacomo) which would at least allow me not to soak entirely if it rains. Before getting lifted up there, I've hidden the raincoat inside my left trouser leg, so I looked a bit spooky with my left leg surprisingly fat.
